We provide a wide range of contraceptive options including implants and coils.
If you would like to start or discuss contraception then please book an appointment with one of our nurses or doctors.
Please see the Contraception Option Choices site to look through contraceptive options.
Contraceptive Implant Fitting
If you would like to have a contraceptive implant fitted or removed please book a double appointment with Dr Blackmore (and ask reception to make a note on the booking that it is for an implant).
Here is a video about having an implant fitted.
Intrauterine Contraception (“coil”) Fitting
If you are interested in intrauterine contraception (coil) please book an appointment with Nichalla Mason (Health Care Assistant). She will discuss this with you and then can book you into the coil clinic with Dr Blackmore.
Before your appointment with Nichalla it would be useful if you could watch this video.
It is important that there is no chance you are pregnant when the fitting takes place. Information about this is included in the video and will be discussed in your planning appointment.
On the day of your appointment we recommend that you eat and take your own pain relief at home prior to your appointment. If you need to bring your child/children then you must bring someone else to look after them. Please bring some sanitary protection as you may experience some bleeding after the fitting.
Intrauterine Contraception Removal
Removal of a coil can be done in a normal 10 minute consultation with a GP or nurse. It is important, in order to avoid risk of pregnancy after removal of your device, that you abstain from intercourse for 7 days prior to your appointment.
