Information and advice for travelling abroad
Our Travel clinic
Nurses Karen and Lavaughn have extensive experience and offer travel clinic consultations on a weekly basis. If you require vaccinations relating to foreign travel or Malaria prophylactic medications, please call the practice to book into our dedicated travel clinic.
While we are very happy to see our patients for travel vaccinations this service is limited to allow us to prioritise NHS core care to our patients. You may find it quicker to obtain an appointment at either a dedicated travel clinic or via a high street/ online pharmacy that offer travel services. This is now a common service offered outside of the GP practice.
Travel Vaccinations
- It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible. We recommend at least 6 weeks before you travel, as sometimes a course of vaccinations is required.
- Some travel vaccines must be ordered in especially for you as they are not standard NHS vaccines that we keep onsite.
- Your final vaccination appointment needs to occur 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
- The Caversham Group practice is not a Yellow Fever vaccination centre. If you require this vaccination you will need to book at a designated “Yellow Fever vaccination” for this service. You can find the most up to date information regarding this by googling Yellow fever vaccination centres in your area.
Travel Clinic fees
- Some travel vaccines are not covered by the NHS and as such incur charges.
- Patients who require Malaria prophylactic prescriptions should be aware that this is a private prescription as is not a service covered by the NHS, as such the production of a private prescription is charged. This fee is paid to the practice and will be in addition to fees that you will pay when you obtain your medication at the pharmacy.
- You can pay for your non NHS services by cash or debit/ credit card at the practice.
